- Join Servas, using the link on the top right of this page
- The applicant must complete a Servas Australia application form (click here to download) for the organizing team and communicate their interest in participating in the SYLE and send to secretary.australia@servas.org.au, who will arrange an interview.
- Once the application is approved, the applicants Servas Letter Of Introduction (LOI) is sent.
- Communication between the traveller and the organizing team of the host country begins, in order to create a program customized to the expectations and interests of both parties.
A four week stay in the host country will follow, based on the accepted agenda. During this time, it is important to keep communication open among all participants of the SYLE experience and to be flexible if changes are needed.
Once the SYLE experience has ended all participants must send an evaluation report to Servas in their respective countries. The traveller must advise the secretary of his/her return home and must arrange to submit an article about his/her SYLE experience
Fees and Costs
The traveller must be able to afford all traveling expenses, visas, transportation, and personal expenses.
The cost of all activities proposed in his/her program must be discussed and agreed upon by the traveller and the host country’s team prior to travel
Funding
A $2,000 scholarship is available annually for an individual who plans to participate in SYLE.
It will be awarded based on a demonstrated need and a commitment to the promotion of Servas among youth.
